Summertime green and heat
Time for a cool flashback ...
The spring frogs have come and gone, the turtles have retreated underwater to avoid overheating,
bullfrogs and green frogs are hangin' out along the shore, the lily pads are sprouting like
gangbusters, and the pond is shrinking by the day

That's a muskrat channel at lower right - leading to their den, which is out of the picture.
As the pond level went lower and lower, the muskrat family (2 adults, 4 kids) moved out.
This channel was revealed as the water level dropped. More about the muskrats is coming.

The bullfrogs, green frogs, painted turtles, and snapping turtles are all hibernating under there, in
the pond-bottom mud, taking in oxygen through their skin!
